Wavelength

Term Category: Acoustics

Wavelength refers to the distance between two consecutive points of a wave that are in the same phase, such as the distance between two successive crests or troughs. It is a fundamental characteristic of a wave and is usually denoted by the Greek letter lambda (λ). Wavelength is inversely related to the frequency of a wave; longer wavelengths correspond to lower frequencies, while shorter wavelengths correspond to higher frequencies.
