Onset

Term Category: Techniques

Onset: The moment at the beginning of phonation where exhalation and vocal fold closure occur. Depending on the order of events, onsets can be aspirate, glottal, or smooth (clean). Each onset has different natural phonation states that follow it and can be used to produce a wide range of stylistic sounds and effects.
