Day 28: Reflection on Your Unique Voice
Over the last week, you’ve analyzed performances, identified what you like and dislike, and experimented with applying stylistic choices. Today is about reflecting on how these steps contribute to finding your own unique voice.
Today’s Task:
- Continue practicing your chosen stylistic skill from yesterday.
- Keep up with your Vocal Function Exercises and time logging.
- Reflect on your listening and experimentation so far.
Reflection Questions:
- What surprised you most about the singers you studied?
- Which qualities from other singers do you want to keep exploring in your own voice?
- If you could blend three singers’ qualities into one voice, who would they be and why?
- Which elements do you now know you don’t want in your sound, and why?
- Did listening to singers outside your usual genre give you new ideas?
Why This Matters:
This method of listening, studying, and taking what you do and don’t like from different singers is one of the most effective ways to develop both repertoire and your unique sound. While we’ve focused on only a few singers this week, expanding your scope to 20–50 singers—across skill levels and genres—will give you an even richer palette. Amateur and professional singers alike can inspire new ideas, and hearing styles you wouldn’t normally sing might reveal something you’d never consider otherwise.
Tomorrow: We’ll move into the final week of the 35-Day Series.
