Day 7 – Revisit & Reflect

You’ve made it through six days of real, meaningful exploration. Today isn’t about adding more—it’s about going deeper. Let’s pause, reflect, and revisit the ground we’ve covered.

There’s no single right way to progress. But progress does come from noticing patterns, returning to exercises, and connecting the dots. Today is your opportunity to do just that.

Before we dive into review, let’s zoom out:

Breath support opened the door to sustained phonation. With sustained phonation, you began shaping your sound by adjusting the vocal tract. Brightness was one such shape—a high tongue, small space, and narrowed pharynx. Then we circled back to breath and examined different types of inhalation. Most recently, we explored how sound begins: vocal onsets.

Quick Recap: Days 1–6

Day 1 – Breath Support
You explored what breath support actually feels like—not by thinking about breath, but by activating support muscles. Through isometric exercises paired with a gentle hum, you began stabilizing the breath and reducing pressure without pushing.

Day 2 – Sustained Phonation
You practiced sustaining a soft, consistent /o/ sound. This helped build control, coordination, and stamina. (Still doing this one daily? Now’s a great time to check in—try five repetitions today and note any changes in ease or length.)

Day 3 – Geometry of the Vocal Tract
You explored how vowel shape affects your sound and began observing how the tongue, jaw, and larynx interact. This shaped the foundation for vocal tone.

Day 4 – Brightness
You experimented with bright, forward resonance using a teasing /nja/ sound, and began distinguishing brightness from nasality.

Day 5 – Breathing Types
You tried four breathing types and began noticing how each interacts with your sound. You also reflected on which is most natural to you—and why.

Day 6 – Onsets
You discovered three types of vocal onsets and how each shapes tone and vocal effort from the start of a phrase.

Reflect: What Patterns Are Emerging?

  • Which day’s exercise stuck with you most—and why?
  • Has your understanding of your voice shifted in the last week?
  • Which habits or sensations are becoming more familiar?
  • What’s one thing that surprised you or challenged your assumptions?

Use this time to return to any exercises that felt unclear or incomplete. Reread the lessons. Try them again. Take notes. Ask questions. This is a chance to build clarity before we move forward.

The goal isn’t perfection—it’s understanding. This is your chance to connect the dots before moving forward. The most effective singers keep learning how to assess, adjust, and grow.

Connect the Dots Challenge

Choose one exercise from the week and modify it using what you’ve learned in another lesson.

Examples:

  • Try a sustained /o/ using each of the three onsets.
  • Try a bright /nja/ after each breath type.
  • Explore how different vowel shapes affect a smooth onset.

What do you notice? Does your sound feel different? Easier? Clearer? These combinations help reveal how the pieces fit together.

Tomorrow, we’re diving into vocal power—where it comes from, how it’s misunderstood, and how to build it without strain. You’ll get practical, applicable strategies that shift the way you think about singing louder.
