The trapezius muscles are a pair of large, triangular-shaped muscles located on the upper back and neck. Originating from the base of the skull and the spinous processes of the cervical and thoracic vertebrae, the trapezius muscles extend downwards and laterally. They insert onto the clavicle the scapula. The trapezius muscles are responsible for various movements of the shoulder girdle, including elevation, depression, retraction, and rotation. They also play a crucial role in maintaining proper posture and supporting the weight of the arms.
