Polyps can form on one or both vocal folds and are not necessarily a sign of vocal trauma. They appear as a swelling or bump similar to nodules though typically larger in size. Polyps can cause hoarseness, breathiness, roughness, decrease in pitch range, pain, fatigue, and many other ways. There are many potential courses of treatment, and as always consult a medical professional.
