Partials are also known as overtones or harmonics. They are the individual frequencies that make up a complex sound wave such as singing. The partials and their intensity are fundamental parts of the varying timbres of different singers and instruments. Various singing techniques can change the intensity of the partials but the frequencies are fixed based on the fundamental frequency.
