The oropharynx is one of three sections of the pharynx, situated behind the oral cavity, extending from the velum to the hyoid bone. The oropharynx contains the tonsils, the epiglottis, and the root of the tongue. The oropharynx is a passage for both air and food and is important for its impact on shaping the timbre of phonation.
